The short version
Two values are stored in your browser whatever you decide: one remembers that you answered the age check, the other remembers your answer to the banner. Everything else waits for a yes and does not load without one.
What we mean by a cookie
The banner uses the word loosely, as most do, to mean both classic cookies and the local storage entries that browsers offer. Our own two values are local storage, which means they sit on your device and are not attached to the requests your browser sends us.
Essential storage
- mg_age_ok — written when you confirm you are 18 or over, so the age check is not thrown at you on every page. It sits there until you clear this site's storage.
- mg_consent — written when you accept or refuse non-essential cookies, so the banner does not ask again each time. It too lasts until that storage is cleared.
Neither can be switched off, because without them the site cannot honour decisions you have already made. Neither holds a name, an email address or anything that identifies a person.
Analytics, only with consent
- Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_<container>) — counts visits and sessions and shows which pages get read to the end, so we can tell whether the site is doing its job. Its lifetime is normally two years from the moment it is written.
Advertising measurement, only with consent
- Google Ads (_gcl_au and related _gcl_* entries) — tells us whether somebody who clicked one of our advertisements went on to read about the rooms or write to the desk. Ninety days is the usual lifespan.
Advertising cookies here measure advertising we have paid for. They do not let anyone place a bet, and nothing on this site accepts money.
Consent mode
Both tags run under Google Consent Mode v2. The page sets every category to denied before any tag loads, so until you answer the banner nothing is written and nothing is sent. Choosing Accept all flips the four categories to granted. Choosing Essential only leaves them denied indefinitely.
Changing your mind
Open , at the bottom of any page, and answer again. The new answer replaces the old one straight away. Clearing this site's storage in your browser resets both the cookie choice and the age confirmation, and the banner and the age check will both reappear.
Blocking cookies in your browser
Every current browser can block or delete cookies and site storage, normally under Privacy, Site settings or something close to it. Blocking the lot will not break these pages: the text, the layout and the links all work. You will simply be asked about your age and about cookies on each visit, because the site will have nowhere to keep the answers.
Absent by design
Not one social network pixel runs on these pages. Google is the only advertising platform in the picture. No cross-site profiling, no device fingerprinting, no session recording, no heatmaps. No embedded video, no embedded map, no comment system. The only outside resource these pages load is the pair of web fonts they are typeset in.
